I have a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design. I learned my business skills from my jobs in the corporate world. I keep my design skills up to date by taking workshops, reading design literature and just continuing to design everyday.
What I love about being my own boss is making all the decisions and having flexibility to spend time with my boys. The drawbacks of being my own boss is that I have to wear many hats and make all the decisions. As you can see, it is a paradox. The things I love about being my own boss can sometimes be drawbacks.
Being a part of the Dreamers into Doers Martha Stewart community has played an important part in helping me realize I could make a go at this new venture. I have meet so many amazing women and I am so honored to be among such talented individuals that are paying it forward with positive and friendly support of each other.
The best piece of business advice I can give is: Do your research, make a plan and set up a solid support system. Above all, believe in yourself.
